New Wine, New Wineskins
The Institute for the Theology of Culture: New Wine, New Wineskins is an exciting program of Multnomah Biblical Seminary. Founded in 2000 by associate professor Dr. Paul Louis Metzger, its aim is to bring Christ to contemporary culture by speaking meaningfully to current issues-especially issues not commonly dealt with in the church.
By keeping one finger on the pulse of the Bible and another on the bold print of the daily news, New Wine, New Wineskins engages worldviews and cultural concerns by bringing theology to bear on today's issues in an academically stimulating manner.
Topics of engagement include class and racial issues, post modernism, sexuality, the arts and Christianity, cross-cultural contexualization, the environment, religious pluralism, politics, and more. New Wine, New Wineskins dialogues on these issues through research seminars, conferences, and an on-line community site, as well as through Cultural Encounters, its new academic journal.
Our desire is to stir the hearts and minds of students, to heighten their awareness of issues, and to challenge them to respond and take ownership within our culture.
