This course focuses on the roles and responsibilities of early childhood and elementary educators as they facilitate the language growth and literacy development of children in a preK-8th self-contained classroom. Students will be introduced to literacy strategies, identification of "red flags" including dyslexia and other reading and writing problems, and how to encourage children to love literature. A 14-hour practicum is included, which provides students with real-time experience in literacy instruction.
