Why I love Multnomah
Since becoming President of Multnomah, I have been more impressed--and humbled--than ever of the incredible heritage of this institution. There is no doubt in my mind that God's hand was directly involved in its foundation through the agency of godly men, and that His hand continues to provide for, direct and protect the college and seminary through its fine faculty and staff. I can't think of a more rewarding place in which to invest my time, energies and talents.
Where I come from
A native of Portland, Dr. Lockwood was educated at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, graduating with an A.B. in political science in 1970. He received his theological training at Dallas Theological Seminary, graduating with the Th.M. in 1976 and with the Ph.D. in 1982. He majored in systematic theology in both graduate programs.
While studying at Dallas, I joined the faculty as instructor in Christian Education (1977-79), concurrently serving as an interim pastor for Lewisville Congregational Church. I joined the Multnomah Bible College faculty in 1979 and became a member of the seminary faculty when Multnomah Biblical Seminary was founded in 1987. In June 1990, I was appointed Dean of the Seminary, directing its efforts in achieving ATS accreditation. In June of 1997, the board of trustees appointed me as Multnomah's fourth president.
I served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Biblical Higher Education (2002-2006), two years as its vice-president, and two as its president. I currently serve as a Director for the Oregon Independent Colleges Association and have led or participated on half a dozen accrediting teams for the Association of Theological Schools.
Family
My wife, Jani, and I have been married since 1972. We are the proud parents of one daughter, Elise, and the happy owners of Luke, their Golden Retriever, and their cats, Brewster and Bradford.
Church
We currently attend Lake Grove Presbyterian Church in Lake Oswego, Oregon. At previous churches, I served as deacon of adult education, as an elder, and as an associate pastor of adult education, teaching adult Bible classes. I frequently speak at men's retreats, family conferences, local churches, and in numerous venues on the West coast.
Extra-curricular, non-ministry activities
I enjoy downhill skiing, long-distance running, music (especially piano), and musical theatre (observing, not performing). I am a former alpine climber and hold a black belt in martial arts. I am particularly interested in performing magical illusions and other visual ways to present biblical truth. I have performed illusions semi-professionally for over thirty-five years.
