Dave Iula, a resident of Portland, Oregon, grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and started guitar lessons in the 4th grade. After learning the basics, he was introduced to Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys and Led Zeppelin. In high school, jazz music caught his ear and he studied with Philadelphia guitarist Frank DiBussolo. He then attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, where he pursued a double major in Business Administration and Music.
After attending Taylor University, Dave enrolled in the University of North Texas jazz studies program. The focus was on performance, composition and arranging skills. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in jazz studies, guitar performance. After 3 years of Texas heat, the Pacific Northwest called his name and he moved to Portland, Oregon, to be involved in the music scene. He is active in Portland as a freelance guitarist and instructor. He is on the faculty at Mount Hood Community College, Multnomah University, Warner Pacific University, and George Fox University.
