Where I come from and accomplishments
After I graduated from seminary, my wife, Carol, my children, and I spent two terms as missionaries in Ethiopia. With the successful coup of Haile Selassie and the installation of the communist government, we were forced to return to the United States.
I accepted a teaching position at Multnomah and later assumed the deanship of the seminary. I accepted the invitation to serve as president of Jerusalem University College (formerly the Institute of Holy Land Studies) from 1990-93. My love for history, geography, and archaeology made the experience in Jerusalem very rewarding. In the mid-90's, I served as pastor of North Carrollton Baptist Church in Texas.
As the leader of Multnomah's biblical tours, I have taken people to the Holy Land, led Reformation tours, and followed the journeys of the apostle Paul.
I am the author of A Visual History of the English Bible: The Tumultuous Tale of the World's Bestselling Book (Baker Books, August, 2008).
I am a collector of ancient Bibles and manuscripts in Greek, Latin, and English. My collection is currently exhibited at the Dunham Bible Museum, Houston Baptist University.
