On August 7, 1979, I began following Jesus Christ. Since November 1980, I have dedicated myself to developing missional communities of Christ-followers. As an urban missionary I have served on teams to start three urban churches, restarted two other urban churches, and ministered as a senior pastor in an inner city, inter-racial church for nine years.
My greatest joy
I see Jesus Christ as Redeemer and Reconciler for all believers throughout history. Yet He does this work for each individual in his or her place in history in a community of faith. Jesus Christ is our eternal contemporary who calls forth followers in every generation. I see my calling here at Multnomah to do my part in nurturing leaders who will develop missional communities of Christ-followers who declare and display the glory of God first in their current context, then to others in theirs. My great passion in following Christ begins with me understanding the time in which we live and communicating Christ to those in it. And it extends to equipping the next generation to engage in following Christ in the advancement of the Church in their time. My greatest joy comes when I experience us fulfilling the purpose of God in our generation.
Extra-curricular, non-ministry activities and family
I enjoy many activities: cooking, drinking good coffee, traveling with my family, being outdoors-hiking, riding, and running, to name a few. Two of my favorites are dating my wife and playing with my four children, Joy, Joel, Jonathan, and Jean.
