Spiritual Journey

Although I attended church as a child and on and off as an adult, I didn’t come to have a personal relationship with Christ until relatively recently.   It wasn’t until my early 50’s that I finally humbled myself before God and accepted Christ.   Since my “conversion,” it’s exciting to see the work of Christ in my life and the changes He is bringing about.

Where I come from

I grew up in Washington state and attended Gonzaga University for both undergraduate and law studies.  Following graduation from law school, my wife and I traveled to England so I could pursue a degree in international law at Cambridge University.  I then entered on to Active Duty with the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Corp (JAGC) serving on special assignment as Assistant Legal Advisor for International Affairs on the staff of NATO headquarters for Southern Europe in Naples, Italy.

After completing military service, I practiced labor and employment law with the firm of Lane Powell in Portland.  9 ½ years later, I changed directions joining the Nike, Inc. law department.  While at Nike, I performed in a number of legal roles and for the past several years served as Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives with Nike’s Sustainable Manufacturing & Sourcing team, responsible for long term initiatives to improve the environmental and social performance of Nike’s contract manufacturing source base.

I retired from Nike this summer after 18 ½ years.  My wife and I are opening our hearts to see where God will lead us next.

My wife and I attend South West Bible Church in Beaverton and have both recently joined the Board of Life Impact, a non-profit that supports the care of Christian workers in need of rest and coaching in their lives and ministries.  And I serve on the Oregon Zoo Foundation Board of Trustees.  In addition to spending time with my grandkids, I also enjoy ceramics, collecting and exhibiting stamps, music, family history, travel and hiking.

My wife, Diana, and I have been married for nearly 35 years.  Along with our dog, Mr. Hewitt, we split our time between Oregon, California and Georgia.  Both our sons are married and we are the proud grandparents of five grandchildren.
