Where I come from

I am a native Oregonian who served in the United States Navy (1981-1987) as a nuclear electrician onboard the USS Truxtun for four years. During that time, I enjoyed being involved in discipleship, evangelism, and apologetics; so upon completion of my military service, I came to Multnomah and earned my bachelor’s degree in theology with a minor in NT Greek. Perceiving the value and need for philosophical reflection, I pursued a Masters degree in philosophy and ethics from Talbot.

Shortly thereafter, I began teaching at Multnomah in the areas of philosophy and theology. This interest in the historical relationship between theology and philosophy has led to a doctoral dissertation that examines the influence of Scottish Common Sense Realism on the Princeton theologian Charles Hodge and its implications in a postmodern context (anticipated date of completion: Fall 2011).

My interests

In addition to a wide variety of academic interests, I am a self-professed bibliophile and enjoy worshipping and serving at St. Matthews Anglican Church. I am married to Anne Marie whom I met while a student at Multnomah and we have two boys, Jake and Ben, who keep us very busy and grounded. My passion is for the integration of faith and mind in terms of what I believe and how I live, and seeing that passion spread throughout Christ’s church. I very much value learning from and teaching about the great theological and philosophical heritage that we as Christians enjoy and its cultural implications.
