My name is Ray. I was born a Texan to Canadian parents. I grew up in deserts, but now I live in green, green Portland. I drive a MINI Cooper and like smoked oyster pizza and Fantasy Football. I've had my 'stache for 38 years. I've taught at Multnomah for over a century (in dog years). I’ve been married a happy thirty (human) years to my wife, Tamara. We have 2 adult kids –Lani (married to Joel) & Chip (married to Rebekah) and one grandson. I attended five different graduate schools in four different countries on three different continents. I am now a professor and so I still go to school every day. And I’m thankful for that every morning!
I've written Read the Bible for a Change and Swallowing Jonah: Strategies for Reading Biblical Narratives, edited Ed Goodrick’s Is My Bible the Inspired Word of God?, and contributed book chapters, articles, papers, and reviews for a number of publications.
Our whole family attends and is active in our church, Endeavor, a new church plant in the Rockwood area of Portland. There I preach, help lead worship (electric bass and acoustic guitar) and serve in leadership.
And most of all, I desire to grow in my love life with Jesus, my wife, my family, my church, my students, my community and with others.
