Sidney Johnson, a native of New York City, moved to the Portland area in 1990 to attend Western Seminary. He is presently a professor of voice at Multnomah University. While in New York City he was professor of voice at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Brooklyn College, and served on the pastoral staff of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnson has a Master’s Degree in Opera and Musicology and a Master’s in Educational Ministry and Counseling. He has received many national and international awards in voice. He has appeared in opera and concerts throughout the United States (the Santa Fe Opera and the Philadelphia Lyric Opera) and in European capitals such as Vienna, Berlin, Salzburg, Paris, Venice and Tuscany.

Currently, he sings in concerts and recitals in the Portland area such as a concert version of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera with the Portland Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Johnson appeared in the N.E.T. television production of Le Rossignol by Stravinsky and recently sang the lead role of Elijah in Felix Mendelssohn Barthody’s Elijah accompanied by Sinfonia Concertante, Novum Chamber Singers and The Oregon Chamber Singers. Mr. Johnson also serves as Minister of Classic Worship at GracePoint Milwaukie.
