Does God really have a plan for our lives? Can we trust Him? Really? As I prepare for the mission field I have, with confidence, proclaimed that I trust Him completely. What I realized the other day, though, was that trust is strong as long as God works according to my plans. It is so easy to trust when things are going well, but what happens when we are tested? A few weeks ago, over a cup of coffee, a girlfriend of mine posed the question, “So now that you’ve completed your MA degree at Multnomah, what’s next in your goals for the year ahead?” Not having yet had the opportunity to really reflect upon the question, I was caught a little off guard. “I want to keep on doing what I’ve been doing — moving forward in the direction that I’m headed in," I thought. Fran Rubio, one of our current students at the College and pastoral interns at Pearl Church where I attend, challenged us a few weeks ago with a brief narrative from I Kings in the story of Ahaziah — an ordinary story really, one previously unfamiliar to me, and yet through the recent re-telling one that has connected with my heart in a meaningful way.
