Brand New Website (This Time, It’s Real)!

Ok, after all the buzz created by the horrible "beta" site, we've actually launched the real, brand new site!

www.multnomah.edu

There are still some items that we're hammering out (isn't that always the thing about websites?) - but we're now live.

Take a minute to browse (and then breath a sigh of relief that the fake site we put up for fun was not true if you were taken in by it!).

Something Wrong?

We will be re-launching some key items over the coming weeks and months (like some Alumni features and the Blogosphere, etc), but if you see a fatal error, please let us know at procom@multnomah.edu

(Also, we're already aware of some strange issues with Internet Explorer 7 - but those should be repaired within a day of this posting)

(Finally, we are not averse to criticism at Multnomah - and believe it, we get a LOT - but please just be civil!)

Where's The Intranet?!

Don't worry, it's there in the footer at the bottom of the page. We recommend that frequent users of the Intranet bookmark it for their ease in the future.

They Love Living @ MU

Recently, our Student Services department (they run student housing and residence life, amongst other things) ran a contest for students to tell them, via video, why they love living at Multnomah.

There was  a modest cash prize - but the real cheddar was getting on to the www.multnomah.edu homepage and promoted via this blog!

The Vid

This video is so good, it makes all of us who are already graduated want to re-enroll and move back in!

Congrats to William A. Beatty for a great production and to Greg Woodman for some sweet original music!

See more MU vids at www.youtube.com/multnomahuniversity

And seriously, this video was 100% student-produced!

Multnomah Is Part Of My Story – Call For Videos!

Attention all Alumni!

The Multnomah family wants to know what you are up to. You can help us share your story by making a video!

3 Easy Steps to Making Your Video

  1. Make Your Video
    • Start with: “Hi, I’m (name) and I graduated in (class year) with a (degree name).”
    • What you are currently doing (life, ministry, career)
    • Multnomah’s ongoing impact in your life
    • End with: “I’m (name) and Multnomah is part of my story."
  2.  Keep It Short
    • Under 2 minutes – or shorter if possible, but still riveting!
  3. Upload!
    • Upload your video to YouTube or another video sharing site and send the link to alumni@multnomah.edu OR send us a DVD.

What Will Happen With It

We will choose a video each month to be our Alumni Spotlight Video. (If your video is chosen, we will send your video’s link to all Multnomah alumni in the Alumni Connection e-newsletter.)

We’ll likely add all of them to our YouTube Channel’s “favorites” section and upload them to the Facebook Fan Page:

Now go… Get rolling! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures! Nobody tells the Multnomah story like our Alumni!

A New Partnership With Georgene Rice

Some of you who listen to The Georgene Rice Show on Portland's KPDQ 93.9 fm radio station already know this - but for the rest of you, we have some really big news!

(See the Podcasted Show announcement below)

The Deal

We've recently signed an agreement to be the primary sponsor of the very well-known Georgene Rice Show.

  • The show will now be broadcast from the "Multnomah Studios at KPDQ"
  • We've partnered up to sponser her podcasts and the call-in phone line
  • There will be a new segment called "Ask the Professor"...(for which they've opened up a competition for Multnomah people to write and produce the segment jingle for it! - email us at procom@multnomah.edu for more details on how you can be famous)
  • Ms. Rice will bring her show to the Multnomah campus (Portland) 3 times/year now
  • There are more items to add to this list, but it's long enough for a blog post!

The Kick-Off

Our President, Dr. Dan Lockwood, went on air live last Monday (4/19) to discuss the new agreement. We've posted the mp3 podcast here for your enjoyment. You'll hear a Multnomah Biblical Seminary radio commercial to start it out and then Dr. Dan comes on at about the 8-minute mark. So simply scroll over to go straight to that if you like. (But the whole show is great! Hello, Georgene!).

YouTube Turns 5 Years-Old

Can you believe that on this day 5 years ago, www.youtube.com was launched? It almost seems like it's been here forever.

Here are a couple of good, short write-ups about YouTube's special day from the Chicago Tribune and the Mashable websites.

Us, 5 Years Ago

5 years ago, Multnomah had just launched the Website we're re-doing right now and we didn't have a blog yet - or a Facebook page, or Chapels on iTunes, or Podcasts, or RSS Feeds, or our own embedded videos from our own Youtube Channel!

www.youtube.com/multnomahuniversity - check back often, we've got more plans and videos already in the pipeline for this!

Student Videos

Also, our students are making more and more great videos these days (actually, they always have, it's just that they are now, thanks to YouTube, more readily available). So, in honor of the Junior-Senior Banquet (JSB) being held tonight, here is the winning video from a STUGO contest for the most creative video for asking your date to JSB:

This morning (Monday, March 29, 2010) The Oregonian newspaper published the story on the front page! It is also today's "Editor's Pick" on the home page of www.oregonlive.com.

gs21libr129jpg-0f2eb27ed4595238Just In Time For 15,000

Last Friday (March 19th) at 10:20 a.m. the 15,000th book was entered in to the library database. And, probably in honor of Dr. Garry Friesen who's been running the program, the final book was "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis!

Now Go Comment and Share

The Oregonian Photos taken by one of their staff photographers turned out really well too. Be sure to go to the story on OregonLive to comment and share it via the buttons at the bottom of the article.

Or, share it via the share buttons at the bottom of this post!

We'd also like to thank writer Nancy Haught, photographer Brent Wojahn, and their editors for doing such a great write-up to bring attention to this very important story!

H89-307After Professor Micheal Gurney appeared on Tualatin Valley Community TV with Dr. Steve Van Horn's "Answers for a Thirsty World" in December...they've asked him back.

This time he'll be on the same show to discuss "Do we need God to be good?".

  • March 17th
  • 8-9 PM
  • TVCTV Channel 11

Be sure to mark this on your calendar.

(Also, make sure you get Prof. Gurney's autograph now before the TV career really takes off! Then you can prove you knew him when he was "local"...) (That's a joke.)

The Inside Scoop On Wheel Of Fortune

Here is an email we received from Frankie Everett after her time at the taping of her Wheel of Fortune appearance that is happening Thursday 3/11 @ 7:30 pm on KATU 2 (Portland) ABC...but check your local listings.

So, below is the history of how it all started, and I have attached a few pictures from the only place on the premises we were allowed to take photos (after the taping was done)… those are cardboard cutouts of Pat and Vanna.

WOF1Taping Wheel, Recruiting Students!

The day started early as we had to take the shuttle to the studio by 7:30.  We were greeted with another shuttle to take us to the warehouse where they do the taping.  We got our makeup done early and just hung out in the audience until it was our turn to be on stage.  Oh, and the stage – so tiny! It doesn’t look near the size it is on TV.  I met a bunch of people who will also be airing their show the same week.  One lady is a pastor’s wife from Canada, who actually knows of Multnomah!  I also sat with a teacher from Arizona and met her husband and kids after the show (she hung out to see how I did)… you know, after we were allowed to talk to our guests.  My friends Rob Fox (MU alum) and Laura  took the trip to cheer me on in L.A.  After I was done taping, there was a guy in the audience that came up to introduce himself to me.  He is a student at PSU, and thinking about coming to MU, so I gave him my card and a little shout-out for why MU is a great place to be.

WOF2

Making a Commercial

We got the chance to tape a commercial for our local station, so watch for that if it airs.  We also got a chance to practice spinning the wheel, and we met Charlie, the voice behind the prize descriptions.  Pretty surreal to listen to his voice and watch him talk at the same time.  There was a group of junior high kids there that day touring the studio, it was so fun to watch them go around on the stage and get to touch the wheel.

Um, A Different Kind of "Taping"

Oh, and the prizes on the wheel… attached with double-sided tape!  Pretty funny – after all these years, they still don’t do anything fancy to attach them.  We taped 6 shows that day – and Pat and Vanna go back behind the puzzle board and change in between each one.  When it was our turn to tape, we had our makeup touched up in between each puzzle, and a bubbly contestant crewmember would give us a pep talk about smiling a lot and being smart with spinning and using vowels.  Lots of direction, and voices, and stand up taller, smile, clap, etc.!
