Kigali & Library Thing dot com

Family & Friends,

Multnomah students set a goal of 2009 books by May 15 (graduation) for the Kigali Bible College which opens January 2011.  When God poured out a book blessing, the goal was changed to “Double or Everything”. At 3:00pm on Tuesday April 21 the “double” goal of books was reached when Debbie Chin recorded book number 4,018 into Library Thing.  Library Thing is not something that slithered out off the bibliographic lagoon.  It is an internet site created for recording libraries of individuals or groups.  We are now one of 600,000 who use this site.  You type in the ISBN # of a book and in the twinkling of an eye, it records the title, author, publisher, date, dewey decimal #, library of congress # and a partridge in a pear tree. Now we can record books three times faster from any computer in the world or from several computers at the same time.  LibraryThing.com is free for individuals.  Our new goal is 5,000 books by May 15.  We learned that African accreditation standards require a library of 10,000 and so that is our ultimate goal.  This past week 30 boxes of books were donated by Tad & Cindy who are leaving to minister in Europe with Cadence and by North Portland Bible College who had duplicates.  Would you join me in a prayer?  I’m praying about ministering in Kigali in July after an invitation from the director of African New Life Ministries who are planting the Kigali Bible College.

What is the LibraryThing handle for the KBC Library? I found a collection called “KigaliLibrary” that has books of the sort that I would expect to be included in this collection, but it only has 1,573 books.

  2. Garry Friesen Says:

KigaliLibrary is the title of our Kigali Kollection for Kigali Bible College. We are adding past books that came in before we found LibraryThing. All 4,000 are now in and we will start adding extra books which have come in. Here is the link to the current list of books.

Joining you in prayer, Garry, for wisdom and clarity about the possible trip to Kigali. My initial reaction is “go,” because of what you will bring to them and how God will minister to you through his people there.
