C.S. Lewis Scripture Index

By Garry Friesen June 6th, 2009

Family & Friends,

For the twentieth time I set a goal to finish the 20 year project called “The C.S. Lewis Scripture Index”.  That is the reason people are asking: ‘Why didn’t you return my call?’  Did you get my email?  Have you dropped off the end of the earth?  June is the finish date.  Not June 2010, but June 30, 2009. I’ve postponed my trip to Kigali, Rwanda to summer 2010. I’ve hired several students who are proofing and I’m editing and correcting until my eyeballs sting.  Sometimes when I look up from the computer I see men like trees walking.  Every morning I feel tired, but after a good night’s sleep I know it is only my eyes begging for a sabbatical.  The sabbatical will come on July One.  People will be getting married in June, but I don’t care – pass me those corrections for index.  The Index now has over 10,000 references and spans a mere 1,300 pages. That is enough to reach from Portland to Oxford England if the pages are made of rubber.  All of them, I repeat, All of them will be corrected by June 30 at 11:59pm or my name is not … what is my name?  I knew it for sure when June began.  By 5:00 pm each my eyes are burning and my brain has turned to mush, but fortunately, I can take a break and watch the Detroit Red Wings in the hockey finals for Lord Stanley’s coveted Cup.

Sincerely,
I’ll think of it soon
