Pathogenic Optimist

By November 2nd, 2013

Family & Friends,

Dr. Daniel Lockwood’s last day as president of Multnomah University was Nov. 1. On Oct. 31 we had a chapel to honor his life and service.

Every speaker was good! David Funk gave a good summary of “H”s. Dr. Dan has humility. He models the essence of servant leadership.

Dr. Dan is hardworking. The list of accomplishments was amazing. Like Edison, “The inspiration of his genius was perspiration.”

Only his “Heroic Faith” was more impressive. As Quincy our student body president said, “You stood before us and talked about your death like one who has eternal life.” Dr. Dan has a Christ-centered confidence because of his belief in the compassionate sovereignty of an all-powerful God. Most of his 17 years as president were paralleled by his fight with cancer. He is in his own words a “pathogenic optimist”. His virus is faith and we have had a front seat to watch his heroic fight.
