Multnomah University Appearing in Portlandia Season 3

Remember this casting call for  Portlandia Season 3 filming on campus?

Portlandia TV Show Features Multnomah University Campus

Portlandia filmed a number of sketches for season 3 for two days this past summer and we had a blast. The Portlandia film crew and actors were some of the best people we've ever had the privilege of working with. It was great seeing Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen hanging around the Admissions Offices or sitting in the commuter lounge of the JCA or sweating it out for three hours with Dr. Dan Lockwood in a very hot Mitchell Library because the sound guys needed the AC turned off!

A Conference On Fatherlessness In Portland

Why Attend

"A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling." – Psalm 68:5

In 2010 24.7 million American children lived in a biologically father-absent home. That equates to 33 percent of America’s kids living without a biological father in their household. Over twenty million lived with no father (biological, adoptive, or step).  Father-Shift seeks to bring awareness to this epidemic and equip communities to bring healing and change to the fatherless landscape in our City. Some of our students and alumni are involved with this event and we at Multnomah thought it important enough to partner with the local churches to sponsor it the conference.

Seven Days of Prayer and Fasting for the City

"Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper." - Jeremiah 29:7

Starting September 30th, believers all over the city of Portland have gotten together to fast and pray every evening for an entire week (Sept 30-Oct 6). We as believers know that there is power in prayer, that we are commanded to pray and that our city needs transformation...yet do we take it seriously?

Put A Lion On It!

Want to be an "extra" on the TV show Portlandia? Well, here's your chance to appear in a special filming on Multnomah's campus! You won't get paid, but you'll probably have a great day and laugh a lot...and there's the whole cool TV show thing...And yeah, we know it's weird to do this at a conservative Christian college. (Is that irony? Discuss.)

We're especially interested in MU students and recent alums who can wear MU gear and sign an Appearance Release and a Non-Disclosure Statement...and then...Put a Lion on it!

MLK Service Day Wrap-up

Dr. Lockwood joined 95 students from Multnomah University, who gave up their holiday "day off", to take part in the first ever college and university MLK Jr Day of Service here in Portland. Estimates of 1,200-1,300 students were at the rally from 11 colleges and universities and 1,100 at the service projects.

The day of service began at 9 a.m. with a rally at Concordia, including music by King Elementary School's choir and remarks from Portland Mayor Sam Adams, Concordia President Charles Schlimpert and Pastor Mark Strong of Life Change Christian Center.

Immediately following the rally, student’s boarded busses for project sites across Portland. There was a wide variety of projects included refurbishing schools, churches and community centers.

The day inspired some intense conversation about the meaning of service and what students can do with their skills and talents! MU students really valued working with other college students and learning why they serve compared to why MU students were serving.

In 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. proclaimed, "Everybody can be great because everybody can serve." Each year, colleges and universities hold events in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. throughout the country. This year, these efforts became collaborative; to enable college students from around the Portland Metro area both learn and serve together for greater community-wide impact.
