Bio of Levi the Poet
Levi The Poet began as an attempt to share art for art's sake, or for my sake. Probably more for my sake, and colorful words can't cover that false identity I tried to build up in my worth as an artist beneath some vague glow of a spotlight (zoom out, empty room).
What it has become is a labor to bare all before others like the Son of Man bore all before us, bore all for us. The vision is Jesus. One day, we will see him face to face. The mission is threefold: realistic, repentant, and redemptive.
Realistic in such a way that life is not candy-coated with smile-painted masks for fear of acknowledging our depravity and flinging ourselves into the arms of grace.Repentant in that the very need for grace necessarily implies a brokenness only perfection can mend. Redemptive in that perfection gave himself for us, his name is Jesus Christ, and we are not alone. All of the answers to our "whys" will not satisfy the pain of this broken place, but the fact that we have a sympathetic servant who intercedes before the Father on our behalf… the fact that we have a savior who empathizes with us and atoned before the throne of God that we might be called his sons and daughters… the fact that we have a dad who holds our hand… those things are priceless.
The chief end of man is to glorify God by enjoying him forever. Joy is a whole lot different than happiness. Jesus Christ is worthy of all of our adoration, all of our thought, all of our life, all of our everything. His love is not contingent upon circumstance. His grace knows no bounds. By his grace, this project will reflect that, and honor my King.
I'm married to my wife, Brandi Macallister, whom I love with all of my heart. I'm the son of a man who loved Jesus and sits, as you read this, at his banqueting table. I'm the son of a mother who loves Jesus and, as you read this, holds onto his promises in the wake of tragedy. I'm the brother of a sister who loves Jesus and, as you read this, diligently pursues the passions he has given her. Truly, God has been kind in adopting our family into his family, as his own.
I'm in school at The Resurgence Training center, studying theology. I am involved in a local church that I love and love to see Jesus work through. I am on the speaking team for XXXChurch.com. I have been touring full-time for four years, performing poems, sharing stories, talking about life and the reason I have to live it. I love what I do. I was going to make this all sound very official and in the third person so that you would all think I've got a great publicist writing out my biographies for me because I'm famous or something.
This is an art project, and I'm passionate about Jesus, but I recognize that I can be both artistic and passionate no matter what my vocation. When the day comes that this is no longer feasible, then I pray that I will be content in the only constant offered me amidst a world of variables: Jesus Christ.
I'm probably not the only Levi that writes poetry
