MU-75 VFCC-88 loss

PHOENIXEVILLE, PA - The Multnomah University Lions played the NCCAA #2 ranked team in the country, the Valley Christian College Patriots, on their home court in Pennsylvania on Thursday night in the opening game of the Hersha Hospitality Classic. The Lions came up short in the game by a score of 75-88.

The Lions got down early against the big time pressure of the Patriots, but found ways all night to make runs and stay in the game. The Lions battled back to within 6 points at the half, despite big foul trouble all the way around.

In the second half, VFCC made two big runs that almost put the game away early, but Tyler Yates and Gian Cook combined for 5 second half three pointers to keep the Lions within shouting distance. Point guards Kevnin Coverson and Steve Bustrin did a great job of making things happen by taking it to the hole and finding our shooters. The Patriots just proved to be too much down the stretch as they pulled away for the13 point win.

Austin Hodges lead the Lions with 16 points and David Walker added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Tyler Yates and Gian Cook hit 3 three pointers each.

Multnomah will play #4 ranked Kentucky Christian University tomorrow at 4:00 local time.

SCORING: Coverson - 10, Hodges - 16, Cook - 13, T. Yates - 9, Walker - 12, Bustrin - 6, Looyenga - 6, W. Yates - 3
