West Coast Beat Multnomah 121-117

117-121 loss

The West Coast Baptist College Eagles claimed the NCCAA West Region Championship on Saturday afternoon by beating the Multnomah University Lions by a score of 121-117 and will now represent the West Region in the NCCAA National Tournament in Circleville, Ohio on March 12-15th.

Jordan Paris got the Lions going early with a three pointer from the corner to help MU get a 7-0 lead, but WCB quickly fought back to take the lead going into halftime by a score of 68-54.  WCB held Multnomah's two leading scorers Davey Walker and Stevie Sansone to 3 shot attempts in the half.  Kristoff Thande picked up the slack by scoring 12 points in the frame to keep MU in the game.

Stevie Sansone got things going in the second half by helping MU to cut the lead to 6, but WCB was again able to stretch the lead back to 18 points.  MU had another charge in them as Erik Mendoza and Steve Bustrin, playing in their last game at home, took it to the basket over and over to cut the lead down to 5. Matt Johnson hit his fourth three of the game with a minute to go to cut the lead to two, but that was as close as MU would get.

Bustrin led all MU scorers with 23 points, followed by 20 from Mendoza. Jordan Paris led MU with 13 rebounds.

Multnomah has earned a bid into the ACCA National Tournament in Joplin, Missouri that will begin on March 6th.  Multnomah is now 15-18 on the season.
