Spiritual Life

Spiritual formation is a foundational goal of all that we do at Multnomah. To be spiritually formed is the process of being conformed to the image of Christ. Spiritual formation is a holistic process that involves growth in relationship and in knowledge, and is worked out in our actions and life decisions. As we study the Word of God and apprehend truth, we are compelled to respond in love and obedience to our God. This process is a response to God’s goodness and is achieved through His grace and empowerment in our lives.

God meets us where we are at today, and step by step helps us to become more like Christ. This work takes place through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is grounded in the Word of God, and is nurtured and supported in Christian community. Although we have many opportunities in place to support students in their spiritual growth, this growth isn’t a result of classes or programs, but of each person’s individual response to and relationship with God.

A Work of the Spirit

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” 2 Cor. 3:18

A Revelation of Truth

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

Obedience and Love

“Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God.” 1 Peter 1:22-23
