Multnomah University Ranked #6 Northwest College by Seattle Metropolitan Magazine


In the October 2008 issue of Seattle Metropolitan, Multnomah University was ranked number six out of a total of 39 Northwest colleges.

The rankings in Seattle Metropolitan were based on several variables:

  • Tuition costs and the average amount of financial aid dispursed
  • Sophomore retention rates
  • Overall scores from U.S. News' "Best Colleges 2009" report
  • Average SAT and GPA scores of entering freshmen
  • Percentages of work-study funds going to community service
  • Student satisfaction with academics (from

  • Alumni giving rates

The top ten colleges were ranked as follows:

  1. Whitman College
  2. University of Portland
  3. Reed College
  4. Gonzaga University
  5. Willamette University
  6. Multnomah University
  7. Pacific Lutheran University
  8. University of Washington
  9. Whitworth University
  10. Seattle University

Other schools in the article similar to Multnomah University were Corban College (ranked 18), George Fox University (ranked 21), and Warner Pacific College (ranked 22).


The article in Seattle Metropolitan said "This list is for those who are more interested in how the whole package adds up (whether prospective students, anxious parents of the same, or proud alums) than just a diploma from a prestigious institution."
