On Saturday, August 15, Multnomah Alumni in the Portland
area will volunteer at Rigler Elementary for desperately-needed upkeep in their
library, classrooms, portables, and offices.
Multnomah University's Alumni Department has turned its Annual
Portland Chapter Celebration into an opportunity for alum to serve their
community through a partnership with Portland Public Schools. Multnomah
students are trained to be servants during their time at the school, and often
lead lives that are marked by servant-hood after graduation, so it is fitting
for this year's chapter event to be a community service project.
At the end of the day, alumni will gather on Multnomah's
campus for a BBQ.
Quotes
"We are excited to be able to
provide this opportunity for Multnomah alumni to serve in the Portland-Metro
area," said Michelle Peel, director of Alumni Relations. "With Rigler
Elementary being just a few miles away from Multnomah's campus and a natural
educational tie-in, the partnership seemed to be a great fit."
"Our desire is that Multnomah
would be an encouragement to the community at large, as well as an ongoing
witness of God's light as we serve Him and others-both with our hands and our
hearts."
The Work Crew
Organizers will need 100 alumni volunteers to help them
complete the work at Rigler Elementary. Of the 100 volunteers, the following
posts need to be filled:
-
5 "crew leaders" that are experienced painters
to instruct/supervise/direct our 100 volunteers!
-
Prep crew (tape trim, cover book cases, lay down
drop clothes)
-
Cut-in crew (small detail work around trim and
windows)
-
Wall rollers (larger wall areas)
-
Cleanup crew (remove tape and paper/drop
clothes)
