Dr. Donald
L. Brake, dean emeritus of Multnomah Biblical Seminary and avid Bible collector,
will release two books this winter: A Visual History of the King James Bible and A Royal Monument of English Literature: The King James
Version 1611-2011.
His first
book, A
Visual History of the English Bible: The Tumultuous Tale of the World's
Bestselling Book, was
released in 2008 to critical acclaim. His next two books follow the same theme,
chronicling how God's word went from manuscripts, through
translation, and into the hands of laypeople.
A
Visual History of the King James Bible
To be released in February 2011 by Baker Books, this book brings to life the
creation and development of the King James Bible (KJV). Using beautiful photos,
illustrations, charts, and sidebars, Dr. Brake tells the story of the KJV's creation and proliferation throughout
the English-speaking world. The book enables readers to explore the KJV's
mysterious beginnings, the men who translated it, the manuscripts on which this
translation was based, the important people and places that influenced its
production, and even the possibility of playwright William Shakespeare's influence
on it.
As the 400th
anniversary of the 1611 King James Version approaches, this book is generating
wide interest. A Visual History of the
King James Bible is available for pre-sale on Amazon and other popular book
retail websites.
A Royal Monument of English
Literature: The King James Version 1611-2011

Literature" commemorates the 400th anniversary of the printing of the 1611
King James Bible and is a finely-designed, full color, leather-bound, 36 page

publication, the publisher offered the "Royal Monument of English

Quotes
"My books seek to
celebrate the 400th anniversary of this wonderful translation," Dr. Brake said.
"The King James Version has fallen on unappreciated days. It is my desire that
these books will stir the conscience of Christians to once again appreciate the
KJV for what it is. Although it may not be the best translation for today's
reader, it stands tall in the history and influence of English Bible
translations."
