Multnomah University Appoints Rex Koivisto to Academic Dean

Multnomah University has appointed Dr. Rex Koivisto to the position of Academic Dean where he will be supervising all college and non-seminary graduate academic programs. Beginning July 1, 2011, Dr. Koivisto assumed the duties of previous Academic Dean Dr. Wayne Strickland, who has been appointed to the position of Provost at Multnomah University.

The Job Description

Dr. Koivisto will continue teaching several Bible & Theology and Greek classes. Also, as Academic Dean, Dr. Koivisto will oversee the majors in three main areas of study:

In addition to supervising the budgets, curricula, and faculty of these majors, Dr. Koivisto also now chairs the Academic Dean's Council.

About Rex Koivisto

As a Multnomah faculty member for thirty years, Dr. Koivisto has served in many areas:

  • Professor of Bible & Theology
  • Co-Chairperson of Bible & Theology division
  • Chair of Greek department 

Dr. Koivisto earned his B.A. at California State University, M.Div. and Th.M. at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary, and Th.D. at Dallas Theological Seminary.

Some of his accomplishments include authorship of a book about church unity, "One Lord, One Faith: A Theology for Cross-Denominational Renewal" and authorship of journal articles. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, the Evangelical Theological Society, and the Institute for Biblical Research. He also serves as an ongoing consultant for biblical language research software.
