Multnomah University Hires New Intercultural Studies Chair

Multnomah University has appointed Dr. Greg Burch the new Chair and Assistant Professor of Intercultural Studies at the college. Dr. Burch will replace Dr. Tom Kopp, who is retiring teaching along with his wife, Professor Bonnie Kopp at the end of the fall 2011 semester to return to the mission field.

On July 1, 2012, Dr. Burch will assume his responsibilities. For the spring 2012 semester, Dr. Martin Alphonse will serve as interim Chair of Intercultural Studies.

Dr. Burch is a 1994 Alum of Multnomah Bible College with a second major in Missions (now Intercultural Studies) and earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.

He served for six years in Caracas, Venezuela with a ministry called Niños de la Luz, which focuses on reaching street children in Latin America. After that, he served as Professor of Missions and Children at Risk Studies with the Evangelical Seminary for Pastoral Education (ESEPA) of the Latin American Mission in San Jose, Costa Rica.

"After interacting with Dr. Burch over the past three years, and after having him participate with us for our last year's Global Ministries Conference, I am delighted that he has been selected and invited by Multnomah's leadership to head up our Intercultural Studies Department," Dr. Kopp said. "He is clearly a man with a love for God, a passion for the Word, and a heart for what God is doing worldwide. Christina is a wife who is wholeheartedly with him in this next step! I firmly believe that the Lord has His hand on Greg, and the Multnomah family will be the richer to have him on board!"
