Olympia, WA - Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon has received official notice of compliance with the State of Washington's Degree-Granting Institutions Act. As such, Multnomah now meets this new requirement and is authorized by the Washington Student Achievement Council to advertise and offer courses toward the MDIV and MA degree programs in the Seminary. In the future, Seattle-area students can complete degrees without relocating to Portland, taking a portion of their courses at the Multnomah Biblical Seminary site at Crossroads Bible Church in Bellevue, Washington.
Multnomah's goal for the Seattle-area site is to increase access to biblically-grounded, culturally-engaged Christian theological education to residents of the Puget Sound region.
As of July 3, 2012, the Seminary programs authorized to be advertised and offered in Washington are:
- Master of Arts in Biblical Studies (with New Testament emphasis)
- Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies (with Family Ministry, Intercultural Studies, Ministry Management, Pastoral Care and Counseling, Spiritual Formation, and Women's Ministry emphases)
- Master of Arts in Theological Studies
- Master of Divinity (with advanced track concentrations)
Pursuant to further accreditation approval, Multnomah University hopes to expand its repertoire of programs in the Seattle area to include other degree programs, such as the Master of Arts in Counseling and Adult Degree Completion.
Some courses offered in Washington will be made possible by Multnomah Live, the distributed education initiative of Multnomah University consisting of a combination of live, classroom-to-classroom video classes; online courses; and local or regional on-site classes. Students may pursue a Multnomah degree without relocating to Portland. Classes are offered online, at extension sites, and at the Portland campus. Portland-based classes are intensive, lasting only one or two weeks at a time.
Unlike many distance learning programs, Multnomah Live features the prominent involvement of full-time Multnomah Biblical Seminary faculty in the online and extension site classes. Students will be able to interact directly with Multnomah faculty, rather than temporary adjunct professors or through teachers' aides or older pre-recorded classes, as is common with many distance programs.
