Approval Makes Way for Multnomah Reno-Tahoe to Offer More Classes
3/1/2013

On January 28, 2013, options for increased access to college degrees and classes for students in Nevada and the greater Lake Tahoe region came one step closer to reality with Multnomah University’s latest accreditation approval. The
Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) approved Multnomah University’s Nevada teaching site
Multnomah Reno-Tahoe to begin delivering more than the current 50 percent limit of an undergraduate education allowed by the State of Nevada. This opens the door for the Reno-Tahoe teaching site to become a full degree-granting campus.
Increased College Choice and Access in Nevada
The addition of new classes is planned for fall 2013, contingent upon State of Nevada and U.S. Department of Education approval. Currently, Reno-Tahoe students only have local and online access to 50 percent of a Multnomah undergrad program due to accreditation and State of Nevada regulations. Students who wish to finish their full, four year degree are required to finish their programs on the main
Multnomah University campus in Portland, Oregon. With this latest approval to offer full programs at the Reno-Tahoe campus from NWCCU, the only steps remaining are State of Nevada approval and subsequently U.S. Department of Education approval of programs to completion. Multnomah Reno-Tahoe hopes to have these approvals by spring 2013.
Quotes
“The receipt of NWCCU approval to offer more than 50 percent of a degree program at the MURT site is a significant advantage to theological education in the Reno area,”
President of Multnomah University Dr. Daniel Lockwood said. “We are excited to offer students the opportunity of attaining an accredited Bible degree in the Mountain West.”
