Multnomah University is now accepting applications for its newest program, the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration
. Students can enroll in the Business program starting fall 2013, and choose to pursue a concentration in “international and cross-cultural contexts.”
Ethical and Sustainable
A survey conducted by Hart Research Associates shows that employers want to see collegiate business programs produce graduates who are able to problem solve, lead and work through difficult situations while maintaining high ethical standards. Multnomah will equip students in the Business program to make wise, principled choices in the face of competing priorities.
Sustainability is an up-and-coming field in business. Organizations and the public are becoming increasingly attuned to the importance of conducting business in a responsible, socially and civically conscious fashion. Seen from the Bible’s perspective, it is simply biblical stewardship.
Multnomah is the Northwest’s premier biblical university, with an unparalleled reputation for providing students with a deep, accurate understanding of God’s Word. But what does the Bible have to do with business? A business degree from Multnomah opens doors for graduates to represent Christ in the marketplace.
A 2004 report produced by the Lausanne Movement
noted that business is a critical channel for advancing the Gospel and bringing the redemptive message of Jesus into many situations and settings. Whether a graduate goes on to create policies in a corporate boardroom, make microloans to needy entrepreneurs in developing countries, start a small business or managing a parachurch organization, Multnomah’s business degree is designed to equip students with the tools they need to make a difference for the Kingdom of God.
- Knowledge and understanding of general business principles and practices, especially as it pertains to ethical conduct and sustainability.
- The ability to identify, analyze, implement, and communicate business solutions that integrate a biblical perspective and faith.
- An understanding and ability to communicate how business, as a vocational field, serves and advances the Kingdom of God and the Church, and how it benefits community.
- A perspective that exhibits an awareness of how business can be global in its reach and substantially connected to the local community where it resides and/or conducts business.
- Professional skills with a level of competency that will serve employers, colleagues and employees well.
“Ethical business practices have their foundation throughout Scripture,” Arts and Sciences Division Chair Dr. Daniel Scalberg said. “Built into the core classes will be a substantive curricular emphasis on virtuous conduct in the workplace and the understanding that trust is important among clients and colleagues.”
“Multnomah’s new Business Administration degree is tailor-made for study in the Northwest, drawing from the signature approach to business our region has to offer,” Provost and Vice President Dr. Wayne Strickland
said. “We have crafted a robust program to equip leaders to create and work in innovative and trailblazing contexts, in Portland or remote international locales.”
