Multnomah University To Launch Four New Sports in Fall 2014

11/8/2013
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Multnomah University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the addition of four new sports teams for the fall 2014 season, including women’s basketball, men’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country.

The Athletic Department is in the process of hiring coaches for each team. As soon as the coaches are hired, recruiting will begin.

“As a department, we’ve been dreaming of this for years,” Athletic Director Lois Vos said. “The addition of these new sports is an investment in our community and in our university. We’ve built a wonderful reputation, and this is an opportunity to expand upon that.”

Multnomah currently competes in men’s basketball and women’s volleyball in the NCCAA Division II. The new sports will help Multnomah broaden its appeal to fans and prospective athletes.

The schedules for women’s basketball and men’s soccer will consist of about 20 games, while the men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in roughly 10 meets. All athletes will go through the same eligibility process. Each team will compete with other teams in the Northwest region.

Although winning is important, Vos said the department will remain focused on its top priority: excellence. “We believe that the Lord is worthy of our very best in everything that we do.  In that, we seek to honor Him through pursuing excellence by allowing the love and perfection of Christ to shine through us in practice, games, service, and life,” said Timothy W. Bieri, women’s basketball coach. “When we succeed, it will be because of Christ’s excellence. When we fail, it will be through Christ’s perfection that we will find victory.”
