An extensive study of one literary genre (e.g. short story, tragedy, lyric poetry, etc.) with an emphasis on discovering how "generic" definitions are formed and altered over time. Considerable attention will be given to secondary texts that explore these "generic" considerations, though readings will consist largely of primary texts in selected genres. Offered alternate years. Prerequisite: One literature survey coruse and ENG304.
