Christian Life Coaching
Multnomah University’s Master of Arts in Counseling department is now offering a Coaching specialization and certification in addition to a Master of Arts degree. The MAC department has partnered with Carl Casanova of New Vibe Training which has created a specialized six weekend class schedule, Friday nights and all day Saturday, for a total of 60 classroom hours. Once the six weekend classes are completed you will be able to add an emphasis in Christian Life Coaching to your transcript and you will receive a certificate from New Vibe Training in Christian Life Coaching.
This coaching specialization and certification is designed to equip students to mentor and disciple people who are seeking spiritual growth and direction in their lives. This specialized program is for counselors, pastors, lay-ministers, or people who want to broaden their helping skill horizons. While this is an added program to our Master of Arts in counseling department and current students, all non-enrolled students will receive a certificate in coaching without master’s-level credit.
Through this elite coach training school each student that completes the requirements will be designated as a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) through Multnomah University in sponsorship with New Vibe Training. The program is endorsed by the International Coach Federation (ICF). Many people choose to take the certification and add "Life Coach" to their business name. New Vibe Training has been an active part of our community since 2002 and has sense seen over 500 students received certification in Life Coaching.
Life Coaching & Ministry
Coaching for counselors, pastors, and leaders is a dynamic and transformational approach for working with people who are seeking answers to their challenges. The goal is not for the coach to fix, rescue, or enable but to guide people through new, proactive ways to find resolution. Coaching is a growing and effective approach in churches and ministries.
Carl Casanova believes that Life Coaching is a growing field within the Christian world and ministry field because it is “more in line with how Jesus approached people in non-judgmental ways. He used parables and metaphors and was a good listener who was concerned with peoples’ souls. Jesus moved people to action with his kindness, to transform lives.”
From the Director of the MAC Department
"We are excited to provide our graduate students with yet another opportunity to gain valuable experience that will help them develop effective ministries in counseling, church leadership, or wherever God leads them to serve," MA in Counseling Program Director Dr. Elizabeth List said. "New Vibe Training has a great track record in the field, which is in line with the quality of education offered by Multnomah University."
“Coaching is positive therapy. I would guess that most of us who decide to get our M.A. in Counseling want to motivate people to move forward … Originally, I thought getting a coaching certificate would bring me the clients who did not think they needed to be counseled. What I found is that short-term, positive coaching can be fulfilling to both the client and coach. Clients discover renewed strengths and the coach gets rewarded by watching them succeed. It’s a win/win career … This coaching program gave me a lot of positive therapy too.” – Suzy Anderson, MAC student
