The Multnomah Lions opened up the Association of Christian College Athletics (ACCA) National Invitational Tournament on Wednesday night by facing off against the #13 seed Emmaus Bible College from Dubuque Iowa on the campus of Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri.
Austin Hodges started the scoring early by connecting from downtown and getting Multnomah off to an early 25-15 lead. The Lions rotated 11 players into the game during the first half, despite playing without Gian Cook who was nursing a sore ankle. Cook will be back tomorrow. The Lions took a 43-28 lead into halftime.
The Lions officially shook the rust off in the second half by knocking down 9 three point baskets and scoring 51 points in the half. No player played more than 22 minutes and 12 players scored in the game. Jared Reando scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Hodges led the Lions with 23 points. Davide Walker added 11 points, while Erik Mendoza scored 4 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 6 assists.
The Lions will now face off against #5 seed Champion Baptist College. Champion features sophomore 6'7" guard Brandon Likins who is scoring 32 points per game and averaging 16 rebounds per game. Game time is 6:30 local time. The Lions are now 16-17 on the year.
