KLAMATH FALLS, OREGON - The Multnomah University Lions faced off against the Oregon Tech Hustlin Owls on Tuesday night in a basketball game against the 2012 NAIA II National Champions. OIT is ranked #2 in the current NAIA II poll.
Big underdogs going into the game on Danny Miles Court, the Lions needed a quick start and got one from David Walker who connected on his first 4 three pointers to get things going early as the Lions hung in there with a 20-20 tie game. The Owls then used their size down low and dominated the Lions on a 7 minute run that extended their lead to a 46-27 halftime lead.
MU didn't quit as they actually cut the lead to 11 points with 8:00 to go in the game, but could get no closer as OIT won the game 86-64. The Owls had a 49-23 edge on the boards that proved to be the real difference for MU keeping it close.
Austin Hodges had a huge second half as the senior guard connected from deep and driving to the hole. Hodges finished with 25 points and 6 assists in 33 minutes. Walker played all 40 minutes and finished with 14 points. Jackson Flah added 2 rebounds and 2 blocks in 10 minutes of action. Point guard Stevie Sansone had a great second half as the freshman point guard finished with 12 points.
The Lions return home for a run of 8 straight home games after a very difficult start to the schedule. MU will face off against Simpson University on Saturday afternoon at 3:00. It sets up for a great Saturday to come watch the Lions play and then go home and watch the Ducks against Stanford which begins at 5:00.
