The Multnomah University Lions played in their first NCCAA National Tournament since 2007 on Tuesday night against Manhattan Christian College in Springfield, Missouri. The game matched the 8th seeded MCC against the 9th seeded MU.
Manhattan started the game by making 13 of their first 15 shots to jump to an early 28-18 lead, before MU hit 6 early threes to stay within striking distance. MU then went cold from the field, failing to score on 12 straight possessions that led to a 57-47 MCC halftime lead.
In the second half, MU made a quick run by hitting on 9 straight three pointers to start the half after falling behind by 15 points. MU tied the game at 91 with 8 minutes to go on some great shooting. David Walker hit 7 second half threes and Austin Hodges nailed 7 of his own. The Lions kept striking back but could not wrestle the lead from MCC. In the end, MCC pulled away for a 120-111 victory.
David Walker and Austin Hodges each scored 32 points and the Lions nailed 22 three pointers on 50 attempts. MU was undone by the high post shot from MCC, the first team to really exploit that spot on the floor against the Lions this year.
The Lions will play their final game of the year tomorrow night against Central Bible College at 8:00 local time.
