The Multnomah Lions opened their Rose City Classic by squaring off with cross-town rivals Portland Bible College in a hotly contested battle at Multnomah.
The Lions jumped to an early lead behind 3 deep three pointers by Austin Hodges. David Walker added two deep ones from the corner to help the Lions take a 36-31 halftime lead.
PBC took the lead by 2 with ten minutes to go, but Matt Johnson quickly countered with a three of his own to take the lead back at 62-61. From their both teams exchanged baskets until the four minute mark when PBC went to a box on one and slowed the Lions down. The Cats also hit the boards hard and lengthened their lead to 6 with a minute to go. The Lions could not catch up as the final score was 87-77.
The Lions shot 48% from the three point line, knocking down 12 out of 25 shots. Austin Hodges led the way with 19 points, followed by Stevie Sansone with 13 points. Steve Bustrin finished the game with 11 assists.
MU will play Central Bible College at 7:00 Friday night at home.
