Solid Performance from MU Not Enough to Top WWU
9/27/12 – Walla Walla University – College Place, WA
The Multnomah University Volleyball team played one of their most complete matches on Thursday night as they traveled to face Walla Walla University four hours away in College Place, Washington. As a team, the Lions finished with 18 kills, 17 assists, and 5 service aces – all season highs for the improving squad. Unfortunately, the strong performance wasn’t quite enough as the spikers from WWU outlasted the Lions in a 2 hour – 3 game sweep 14-25, 16-25, 22-25.
The Lions received an impressive offensive effort from the entire front line – specifically led by the precision setting of Maimona Shafir (SR) who ended the night with 15 of the teams’ 17 assists, and the powerful attacking of outside hitters Malia Pearson (JR) and Christina Thompson who both ended the match with 6 kills. Further, the offensive effort would not have been possible if it wasn’t for very strong passing from defensive specialists Rachel Sheldon (JR), along with Leanne Gish (SR), and Krista Loughman (JR). Also leading the way with two service aces each were Pearson and Gish.
The Lions finish their 3 match week tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, September 29, 3pm)as they play host to Centralia College from Centralia, Washington. MU faced the Trailblazers earlier in the season and were swept in 3 sets.
