A Journey from Multnomah to Qumran: My Research on the Dead Sea Scrolls

1/15/2014 6:30PM-8:00PM
Please plan to join us next month on Wednesday, January 15 at 6:30 in the evening for a special lectureship with Multnomah alumnus, Dr. Robert R. Duke (BA '96).  Come learn more about his journey from Multnomah to Qumran and his research studies with the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Bobby, as he is known among the Multnomah community, will share with us about his post-Multnomah studies in Israel that eventually culminated in a PhD from UCLA.  He has spent much of his time researching non-biblical texts in the Qumran library and will share some interesting findings from his work there.
His lecture will address three concepts:
  1. How modern translations incorporate Qumran data
  2. How Qumran data can help us read modern translations more inquisitively
  3. How Qumran ideology in non-biblical (sectarian) documents should caution us in our interpretation of modern translations
He will also share some exciting new opportunities for research items in the Green Collection.
Event is FREE but RSVP is required! To RSVP contact Michelle Underwood at (503) 251-6458 or email me at
