Response teams meet others' needs
Community Response Teams, developed last semester by Multnomah Community Outreach, have made eight trips into the community around Multnomah since the fall semester's Day of Outreach. Program coordinator Zach Knuckey hopes to make 15 trips this semester.
Most of the work the student teams do is yardwork for elderly people. They also volunteer at organizations such as the Pregnancy Resource Center.
"It's great to go out into the community and be a resource," Knuckey said. He said he loves to serve God in tangible ways and use his construction skills.
Julie Brown, a member of MCO, joined a Community Response Team that helped with a fundraiser for Pregnancy Resource Center. The team stuffed thousands of envelopes.
One of the Community Response Team's main goals is to build relationships in the community by talking with and serving people.
Brown said this ministry provides an open door to share because of people's excitement and gratitude that students are there to serve.
"This has been a really neat experience for me. I did not really know how grateful the community would be," Brown said.
