MBC professor writes songs heard around the world
Dr. Patty's songs are still being sung today. -Ambassador, photo
Dr. Steve Patty, head of the youth and educational ministries departments, sometimes receives requests for worship songs that he wrote about 10 years ago in Europe.
He was involved in a ministry to Air Force youth and discovered a need for new worship songs. He decided to write his own, although he only plays a little guitar and piano.
During this time, Dr. Patty wrote more than a dozen songs. Some were upbeat and rowdy; others were slower and reflective.
When he returned home from Europe, he started receiving phone calls from people around the United States who had heard his songs and
wanted to use them.
As requests came from places such as North Carolina, Los Angeles and Texas, Dr. Patty figured that his music must have traveled from Europe to the United States through military worship services.
A couple of his most-requested songs are called "At All Costs" and "Take My Heart," which various bands have recorded.
One of these songs was also used as the theme song for a summer-long youth missions organization called Yugo Ministries.
Dr. Patty said he hasn't written anything for a number of years but would like to again someday. Right
now he has other priorities.
He has no specific plans to make a
CD in the near future -- his only recording was of 10 or so songs he made years ago just to have them on record. He said his desire is simply that the songs be a blessing to people.
