Dean of seminary steps down to take teaching position

Dr. John Wecks

Dr. John Wecks, the dean of Multnomah Biblical Seminary, will be stepping down to take a full-time teaching position with the seminary. Dr. Wecks has been dean of the seminary for a year and a half. His responsibilities as dean will be finished by July 1, and he will return to a full-time teaching position next fall. "I'm stepping down because I have a passion for teaching," Dr. Wecks said. He has continued to teach classes along with being dean. But he says that when he steps down, he will have time to read, research, and prepare for classes as he would like to do.

The search is on to find a new seminary dean. According to Dr. Lockwood, the seminary has about five candidates for the job. Some are from within Multnomah. The seminary has held a few preliminary interviews but is still gathering names and information. When Dr. Lockwood became the president of Multnomah, he needed to appoint a new dean of the seminary; Dr. Lockwood had been the dean. "Dr. Wecks was really my first choice. I felt that he had good organizational skills, he was a good communicator, and he would work well with both students and faculty," Dr. Lockwood said. Although Wecks really loved teaching, he accepted the position.

Dr. Wecks said that what he has missed most in his time as dean is the preaching class. When he becomes a full-time professor again, Dr. Wecks will miss being able to set the direction for the seminary, he said.

Lockwood and Wecks have known each other since they were children Central Bible Church. They also went to Dallas Theological Seminary together after Wecks finished the three-year program at Multnomah.
