Director of development steps down

Mike Pate

Multnomah's director of development, Mike Pate, stepped down from his position at the end of February. Mr. Pate left Multnomah for many reasons, he said. One reson for his departure was that he wanted his wife, who had a baby in December, to be able to stay home with their child. Financially, she was not able to while he was working at Multnomah.

He will be continuing his job as associate publisher for Clark County's Television & Entertainment magazine. He has also co-founded Journey Community Church, a new church for business people and non-Christians. According to Mr. Pate, the church has been holding services for only a month but saw 600 attendants the very first Sunday. Mr. Pate also has three children living in California whom he plans to visit often.

Mr. Pate worked in the development department, a division of the advancement department, facilitating the raising of funds, according to President Dan Lockwood. The development department, according to Mr. Pate, "makes friendships that could lead to the giving of funds."

Mr. Pate made calls, wrote appeal letters, helped Multnomah friends in short-term charity giving, planned events for the college's trustees and was involved in the Phone-a-thon and Thank-a-thon, which he originated. He also coordinated how the president, Daniel Lockwood, would spend his time and effort with Multnomah's supporters.

Mr. Pate also led the 1999 annual fund campaign, a fundraiser predicted to raise $1.25 million to help educate students while keeping the cost of tuition down. Out of the $1.25 million, $330,000 will go to Multnomah grants and other student aid.

Mr. Pate graduated from Multnomah Biblical Seminary with a master of arts degree in pastoral ministry. After graduation, he worked as the seminary admissions counselor until Vern Davis recruited him for the development department.

Multnomah has not found a replacement for Mr. Pate, but the college is considering names, according to President Lockwood.
