The new Multnomah website features new graphics, navigational bar, user-friendly links, an internal search engine, and academic-staff department pages.
Imagine enjoying preview week at MBC from the comfort of home or a local library. Imagine touring the campus, sitting in on classes, meeting students and faculty, seeing the students minister, perhaps even catching an Ambassadors' basketball game from anywhere in the world. Imagine applying to Multnomah and registering for classes from that same distant location.
Soon, all these things will be two clicks away.
A 10-member web site board, comprised of various department faculty and staff, is revamping Multnomah's home Webpages. The board plans to review and revise Multnomah's web site, utilizing its maximum potential to communicate to students, staff, and alumni, and they also hope to reach countless prospective students.
"We hope [the web site] will become one of the main promotional resources," Sheri Hansen, student recruitment director, said. During the 1999-2000 school year, more than 20 new students learned about Multnomah through the Internet. "We realized," Mrs. Hansen said, "Multnomah's own website needed to be updated and high quality."
The revamped 750-page web site includes new graphics, a navigational bar and user-friendly links, an internal search engine and academic-staff department pages containing headings and descriptions. To avoid frustrating people with smaller computers and little money, Mrs. Hansen said, website designers kept the site design simple.
Multnomah's web site is two years old and includes individual pages for the bible college and seminary and International Renewal Ministries. Users can already tour the campus, download catalogs and applications, listen to select Ambassadors' basketball games and find out about upcoming Multnomah events.
Within the next year, Mrs. Hansen would like to see live classroom video clips on the web site to give people a taste of what being in a Bible class is like. "The professors," Mrs. Hansen said, "are really the drawing point of the school. They teach the Word, and they love God. You can tell people that, but for them to be able see it is better." The web committee also plans to add student testimonies about Multnomah. They feel personal stories will impact viewers the most.
James and James, a Sellwood advertising company, in cooperation with Multnomah's Information Services Department is reconstructing the site.
The site was originally scheduled for release this March, said Doug Taylor, Multnomah's Public Relations Coordinator. Taylor, who heads the web site committee, did not know when the new release date would be.
The committee solicited all of the faculty and department heads, asking what they wanted to see on the new web site, Mrs. Hansen said. The committee then voted on what suggestions to make a priority. As the site gets established, over the next six months the committee will review and revise it. The new web site has been in the planning stage for the last two years.
Information Services Director Greg Dillon said future plans include online registration for students.
The website address is http://www.multnomah.edu.
