Preserve the A-Frame As It Is
The A-Frame, one of Multnomah's most distinguishing landmarks, should not be torn down. Although scheduled for demolition within 10 years, the A-Frame is still a needed part of MBC's campus.
For years, the A-Frame has been the only spot on campus large enough for student events such as international banquets, fellowship events, and even the school play. The A-Frame is the perfect size. Its small stage area is used consistently for performances, benefit concerts and fundraisers. Its intimate setting and warm atmosphere have even hosted sleepovers in the loft and a wedding in the main hall. MBC needs the A-Frame -- a space not too big and not too small.
The A-Frame also provides a warm spot for off-campus and seminary students. For those without a meal plan or for those who don't want to cram into the Solid Rock Cafe to heat up last night's spaghetti, there is only one place on campus to go.
With more growth in the student body projections, the A-Frame is only needed more. Even with a larger cafeteria and a larger Solid Rock Cafe, the A-Frame will still provide a unique place for students to gather.
The A-Frame belongs more to the students than any other building on campus. Years ago, students erected the A-Frame with their own funds as a place where they could gather for fellowship. Decades later, that need has not disappeared.
Charm and character still have their place: The high wooden roof and large fireplace of the A-Frame are unique and cannot be replaced by the plaster walls and bright paint of newer buildings. The A-Frame's location may be useful, but nothing is going to replace the A-Frame's history, perfect size or welcoming character. Don't demolish our landmark.
