Destiny is destined for Hawaii

Destiny members Sheri Stafford, Shannon Randall, Ryan Potter, Melissa Boydston, Angie Parr, Matt Berryessa-Larin, Laura VanAtta, and Robert Maurer sing during a worship chapel.
After an unexpected change of plans, Multnomah's ensemble, Destiny, has decided to spend three weeks in Hawaii, visiting both the Big Island and Oahu. Singing is the group's main ministry in Hawaii, but according to music adviser Miriam Gibby, "We're committed to doing whatever ministry comes before us."
Destiny plans to sing at schools, churches and youth events in Hawaii. Multnomah is holding an alumni gathering in Oahu; Destiny plans to sing there as well.
The group is staying at a retreat center during its third week in Hawaii. Although plans are not certain yet, Professor Gibby hopes Destiny can help with some of the upkeep and labor at the retreat center.
Professor Gibby plans to keep the group busy singing and ministering. But Destiny will have time to play. Members have every Monday off to sightsee and explore the island. Destiny is traveling with alumni director Ray Keen who knows the islands and can show the group around.
"[I'm looking forward to] the chance to build relationships with the people in Destiny as well as the people in Hawaii," senior Angie Parr said.
Earlier in the school year, Destiny was planning a mission trip to Australia. However, several of the group's contacts fell through and it became apparent that God was closing that door, Professor Gibby said. When Professor Gibby informed the Destiny members that their mission trip location had changed, "they were very cooperative. They redirected their energies very quickly," Professor Gibby said.
"I was kind of disappointed we weren't going to Australia, but I figured God was opening a door for us in Hawaii. I was excited to see how God was going to use us," Parr said.
Although $8,000 remains to be raised and logistics still have to be worked out, Professor Gibby and Destiny are excited about their trip to Hawaii.
Beth Coleman has been on two mission trips to Hawaii. She loves guava ice cream.
