Use courteous driving as a witness on the road
The tendency for motorists to toss out all courtesy while driving is offensive. But the tendency for motorists to throw courtesy out the window while having a Christian emblem attached to their vehicles is downright appalling.
Christians have opportunities to display Christ in every aspect of life including when they drive. Titus 2:6-8 urges Christians to be examples to people by doing what is right so that those who oppose Christ will be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about Him or his followers.
Christians, no matter how strong their faith or how mighty their works, sin. But Christians have the opportunity to turn from sin. Every Christian has the opportunity to forsake the ultra-aggressive driving that tempts all who sit in the driver's seat.
How wide do you think God's smile is when a steward of His love abuses the privilege of transportation by endangering the safety of others? And how joyful do you think His tears are each time a Christian cuts through three lanes of traffic and barely avoids an accident just to get to his or her class on time?
Christians should never be satisfied with mediocrity. If a non-Christian can be courteous to other motorists, a Christian should practice that same kindness tenfold.
The emblem of a fish or a snappy Christian bumper sticker does not give license for reckless driving. And other drivers do notice Multnomah parking permits.
