Multnomah Bible College and Seminary tied with Dallas Theological Seminary for first place in "Christianity Today's" 2003 survey of the 40 best Christian places to work.

Multnomah entered in the medium-sized colleges, universities and seminaries category. Multnomah and Dallas Theological beat Western Baptist College of Salem, Ore., and Bryan College of Dayton, Tenn., which also tied for third. According to Erma Wolever, Multnomah's director of human resources, "Christianity Today" asked 56 questions in an online survey; seven of those questions were for demographic purposes.

Mrs.Wolever said "Christianity Today" surveyed 86 Christian organizations with 8,698 employees for the award. Multnomah employees completed the survey questions involving leadership, Christian ethics and environment, benefits, performance management, engagement and motivation, teamwork, job satisfaction, job level, length of time employees have worked at Multnomah, gender, ethnicity, employee ages and suggestions for improving the workplace.

President Daniel Lockwood held a surprise celebration for the employees in light of the award and gave them the afternoon of Good Friday off.

In an article titled "Practicing What They Preach," "Christianity Today" remarked about Multnomah's unique faculty-staff free lunch program and said, "Institution-wide camaraderie distinguishes both schools."
