Multnomah will soon expand the gym parking lot. Northwest Demolition & Dismantling removed the house between the A-Frame and the Northeast 87th Avenue parking lot entrance this summer.

The vacant space will become additional parking spaces, Multnomah's executive director of facility services, Lloyd Helm, said.

Mr. Helm said that a potential buyer was planning to move the two-story house to a nearby property. That buyer, however, was unable to find a suitable lot for the large home and had to back out of the deal. At that time, Multnomah's board of trustees decided to deomolish the building.

The board also voted to destroy two other campus houses located on Pacific Street.

Mr. Helm said, "The cost to bring those up to living standards was prohibitive when compared to removing them and eventually building something new."

President Daniel Lockwood said the administration has not determined construction plans for the empty lots on Pacific Street.

He said, "One of the things we've talked about for years is not whether but when we should convert some of the school's houses along Pacific Street into townhouse apartments that would be available to both single and married students."
