A Multnomah Bible College student has followed her vision and created a new ministry this year called In God We Trust. The group will use music and drama to communicate the gospel to people at correctional facilities, nursing homes and homeless shelters.

Shannon Randall, a senior in music ministry, heads this evangelism team. She said the team aims to tell people that anything they place their trust in, such as money, will fail them. Only a relationship with Jesus can truly satisfy.

The team will demonstrate its message not only through music and drama, but also through preaching, testimonies and scripture reading.

Each off-campus presentation will involve two evenings -- the first evening, the group plans to meet physical needs of the people. A concert the following week will present the gospel message to satisfy spiritual needs.

In God We Trust has six members.

Courtnie Bennett and Troy Majeska make up the drama team. Randall, Kara Bushnell, Brock Dittus and Dan Herman make up the music team. The key credential Randall sought in members was a heart for evangelism.

She also looked for teachable spirits, adaptable people skills, dependability and punctuality. Her other required qualifications included a passion or talent for preaching, music or drama. The music department is fully funding the group.

Randall has involved herself in music since she came to Multnomah. She participated in Destiny for two years and sang with the choir for three years. This year on fall choir tour, Randall is playing the flute and Irish whistle and participating in drama.

Her leadership with In God We Trust will fulfill her practicum for the music ministry major. Professor Miriam Gibby, music department chair, said Randall is an evangelist by gifting. "She shares pointedly and yet lovingly," Professor Gibby said.

Randall's vision for In God We Trust began at the Cannon Beach Conference Center this past summer. As she sought God's will for her talents, He clearly gave her an idea for a group that shares the gospel through music and drama. The group is modeled after an evangelistic team she had been on in Croatia.

Randall originally envisioned In God We Trust as a summer ministry consisting of outdoor concerts on downtown street corners and in city parks. That vision still lives. Randall is searching for students to commit to a summer ministry and trusting God to supply the needed personnel.

She said, "People hear the music and come to have fun. They end up hearing the gospel and having an opportunity to respond to Christ."
