Seminary groundbreaking set for September '00

Construction of the new Multnomah Biblical Seminary building may begin as early as September, 2000. The new seminary building will stand facing 82nd Avenue, about the same distance from the road as Sutcliffe Hall, Don Brake, dean of MBS, said. Parking will be located in front of the building. The two-story building will boast seven classrooms and 14 offices. Offices will be located the second floor.

The classrooms will be available as study areas for Multnomah Bible College students. These study areas will aid in keeping the A-Frame open as a student center.A commuter office for students who don't live on campus will also be on the second floor. The office will include a kitchenette as well as lockers for off-campus students. The commuter office will allow students to fix meals and store their belongings.

The new building will give MBS "a real presence and a distinct identity," Dr. Brake said. He also said he expects the new building to raise enrollment.

The seminary has half of the money needed to build the building-- $1.1 million. Groundbreaking will not commence until all the money is gathered for building costs.
