New dorm opens soon

Dec. 15 is the tentative date for the opening of the new men's dorm. Robert Gray Contractors should complete construction by Dec. 1.Construction is proceeding on schedule according Lloyd Helm, director of Campus Services. Constructing the new men's dorm is the first project Multnomah Bible College has hired Robert Gray Contractors to complete. Construction was initially delayed because of plan approval by the city.

Finances are also "right on target," according to Paul Griffin, vice president of MBC's finances. Funds raised by selling college-owned houses on Pacific Street paid nearly 35 percent of construction costs. "The balance will come from financing with the bank," Mr. Griffin said.

White Hall will receive a face-lift sometime this spring. The design will remodel the lower floor into suite-type rooms, combining two rooms into one. The remodeling will secure the upper floor of White Hall, making it inaccesible.

Donations earmarked for remodeling and funds set aside from the general operating fund will finance the remodeling. Multnomah is not planning on selling any more of the houses on Pacific Street. However, some houses may be made available to married students or removed for the construction of multi-apartment facilities. According to Mr. Helm, any future changes concerning the housing on Pacific Street is dependent on future student enrollment.
